Internet Usage Reaches Record Levels In OZ

02 March 2010

According to leading research Company Nielsen, Internet usage in Australia has reached record levels, with the average Australian Internet user spending 17.6 hours per week online.

Internet usage increased by nine per cent in the past year and saw a 28.5 per cent increase compared to 2007 levels, according to the Nielsen report. Greater penetration of broadband also appeared to be driving Internet usage, with Internet users with broadband access spending an average of 19.7 hours per week online.

Increases in Internet usage have not been at the expense of other forms of media, and Australians continue to spend a significant amount of time multi-tasking media. Overall, almost half of Internet users (49 per cent) multi-task television and the Internet at the same time, and 39 per cent multi-task radio and the Internet.
